Before the Law by Franz Kafka
A quick, one-page parable that you might one day read online.
But take note: I cannot allow you to do so at the moment.
Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism by Vladimir Lenin
If you want to truly understand modern capitalism, and why many people believe it is leading to the ruin of society, then this classic text is a must-read. It's 112 pages, so either just print each page as you need it from the archive, or just purchase it here instead.
Note: Mainstream U.S. citizens, who have been culturally-conditioned to cringe at any language sounding even the slightest bit Marxist (you're cringing even now, aren't you?) would do well to substitute the more-acceptable, modern term "finance capitalism" every place that Lenin uses the term "imperialist capitalism". It will make the text much more approachable.
